Assalamu alaykum/Peace be upon you,

Welcome and thank you for taking the time to read this post.

As this is my first ever blog post, I must begin by introducing who I am. What happens thereafter, only time will tell.

I am a Muslim woman, born and raised in Australia to migrant Lebanese parents. I have 3 sons (8, 5 and 1), a loving husband and, lots and lots of books.

A few years ago, I worked as a high school teacher; teaching English and Humanities. I loved my job and I loved my students, but I decided my priority was my family. After my 5-year-old was born in 2014, I did not return to full time teaching. Instead, I worked part-time as a playgroup facilitator and started writing my first book. I felt this path was easier to juggle and it ticked a lot of boxes for me.

I must be honest with you, becoming an author was never something I thought I would do. I wanted to write a book. I was inspired by writers, authors and story tellers; I just never believed I could do it.

When I think back to how I did it and why I did it, I often say the answer resides in the need for it. As an educator, I feel the need to educate, to empower, to give hope. My aim is to write books which do this. Yes, I do hope they are enjoyable to read, but what’s most important is that they teach readers a little bit about my faith, my culture, my way of life.

I look forward to sharing more of my experiences and my journey with you as it all unfolds. Follow along and share your stories with me; who knows, you could inspire my next book!

Peace/Salaam,

AMAL
